We all get complacent when we are at the cottage and don't get me wrong it’s always a fun time and always memorable but why not try something new this summer? Here are 7 things that you can do to spice up your relationship with your cottage.
1. Chop-Chop
Hire a chef and call your nearest and dearest and treat them to a intimate dinner on your deck or dock overlooking the lake. No chopping, cooking or cleaning required. Unless you'd like to take a private cooking class in the comfort of your own kitchen.
2. It's a Bird, it's a plane…
Book a Jetovator! They come to your door and the whole group can have a chance at flying through the air over your lake.
3. Get Rocking
Hire a rock band or a guitar player where you can sit or dance around your campfire, or even check out some local concerts. A word of caution - check with your neighbours or the next suggestion will not go over well. Check out local artist Tobin Spring on CBC Music.
4. Come and knock at my door….
Have a meet and greet with your neighbours. In an area where we still leave keys under the flower pot it’s an important part of the cottage lifestyle to introduce yourself and your neighbours will be your best security system when you are away!
5. Reclaim your own creativity
Grab some paint, brushes and a canvas and tap into your inner artist or find a local artist and have them come to your cottage for a day to create a priceless piece of art that can be passed down for generations. You can also check out some of Muskoka's Art Galleries
6. Let’s get Physical
Hire a Yoga, Pilates or Personal Trainer for the morning and have a family work out. You could even set up an obstacle course and finish in the lake! Last one in is a rotten egg!
7. Get your Game On
Have you been playing that same game for the last few years and every season you lose a piece, cards are torn or you start to use the thimble in Monopoly as your guy in Cranium? Whether you’re into classics like Balderdash (my personal favourite) or something a little more exotic like Pandemic (which I’m adding to my collection this season), buy some new games and start some new traditions.
