Thanksgiving in Muskoka – Autumn Activities

Blog by Ragan Zilic Lovegrove | October 6th, 2017

Autumn Leaf in Hand

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

The fall is upon us, and it’s a wonderful time of year. We have had some incredibly sunny days and lovely cool nights, which makes October one of the prettiest months in Muskoka.  But let’s not forget the gorgeous colours of the changing leaves in our area – it is perfect in so many ways!

In the spirit of getting out and making the most of the autumn season, here are some ways that you could spend these next few weeks in Muskoka.

Sandhill Nursery’s Fall Festival

Sandhill Nursery is having their annual Fall Festival and Canadiana Christmas until Oct 15th, and not only can you get some amazing Christmas Décor, there are also lots of exciting activities for the whole family to enjoy. Take the kids, grab the whole family and have fun shopping and looking at Tim’s amazing garden designs.

Grab a Glass

How about a little white wine on the deck in Huntsville this weekend? I know it will be sunny!

We went to Cafe Wilgress a few weeks ago, and we had a wonderful evening. I met up with some long-time friends from Toronto that I hadn't seen in a few years – just another thing that I love about Muskoka. It was perfect for catching up and creating new memories.

If you want to add some live music to your evening, a walk across the road to On the Docks Pub can add just the right flavour to an evening on the town.

Dinner on the Lake

Have you had dinner at Sherwood Inn on Lake Joe? If you haven’t, there’s still some time left in the season. If the weather allows, you can sit under the stars overlooking the lake; if it’s chilly, grab a table in their lovely dining room and enjoy the ambiance.

Do you like cranberries?

Probably not a question you get every day, but the Bala Cranberry Festival happens every year on the weekend after Thanksgiving, and it’s simply amazing! Johnston’s Cranberries has 27 acres to pick, and they produce around 300,000-400,000 lbs of cranberries each year. At their annual festival, you can see local artisans, taste fresh homemade food, drink some vino, and you can even take a helicopter ride and see the fields from the air. So much fun.

Need some music?

If you’re looking for an awesome concert this weekend, Honeymoon Suite will be performing at The Kee to Bala this Saturday and Blue Rodeo on Sunday. Catch one or both, and enjoy some top tier music at a great local venue.

Watch the Leaves Turn

If you don’t already have a favourite place to go to enjoy the fall foliage, you can get a view of the turning leaves at any of these places:
