New Year’s Resolutions – How About Muskoka Resolutions?

Blog by Ragan Zilic Lovegrove | February 2nd, 2017

It has been 2017 for a month now – how are you doing with your New Year’s resolutions? (Don’t worry – I won’t judge.) I know you are all eager awaiting the arrival of spring in Muskoka, so for the statistical majority of us who are already having trouble with our New Year’s resolutions, I thought we could make a few Muskoka Resolutions that should last until the birds start singing and the grass is green.

Join a Co-op

If one of your resolutions was to get healthier this year –– why not start with the way you eat? Food is our number one source of medicine, and there are few better ways to get fresh whole food than by joining a local co-op.  I recommend trying out the Muskoka North Good Food Co-op to kick start that resolution.  They have fresh local produce, meats and cheeses ..yummy!

Take a Class

Did you resolve to get in better shape? Have you made it to the gym yet? You could try Boot camp or Pilates at fittgym.com or check out Ballet Barre Muskoka for something a little different and a lot of fun.

Get Centered

Muskoka also offers a wide variety of Yoga classes for those who are looking for something a little calmer, or who just need to get centered. I recommend trying Ahimsa and Sacred Breath Yoga, or Muskoka Hot Yoga – both are great options for the beginner and the enthusiast alike.

Embrace the Weather and Get Outdoors

If your resolutions were less about wellness and more about trying new things, how about a little adventure?

Embrace the winter weather and take full advantage of what mother nature has brought to us. There are any number of activities that you can try – have a look and see what strikes you. Or better yet, skip the research and go snowshoeing!

Try some new flavours

If the new things you resolved to try are more culinary in nature (or once you get back from your outdoor adventures), why not try something that will make you feel all warm and cozy? That Little Place by the Lights has amazing pasta that they make themselves, and it’s impossible to go without trying their Gelato (even in winter).

Kick Start Your Home Improvement Projects

Was your resolution to do a little home improvement? Why not get started with a new piece of furniture, or better yet – some new light fixtures? Plan a visit to Muskoka Lighting Company, and take advantage of one of the easiest ways to upgrade your space.

Explore Community Events

If you’re looking for another way to experience new adventures this winter, don’t forget all the winter festivals that are coming up in the area – there are all sorts of events in the community for all ages.

Give Back

Last, but certainly not least, if you resolved to give back to your community, there are a number of amazing organizations in Muskoka where you can volunteer, such as Community Living Huntsville, Muskoka Animal Rescue, and many others.

What are your Muskoka Resolutions this year? Let us know in the comments.
